As some of you may know, I’m obsessed with Harry Potter. I have the books. I was lucky enough to go to one of the premieres in Leicester Square. I just loves me some Harry Potter. So when I was invited to go to Harry Potter World I peed myself. And here is the proof.

The New Saturday

My dad is the king of thrift and has been that way since before I was born. He is the original green man without even knowing it. The new Saturday routine is to take all of the cans he used/found to the recycling center where they pay you cash, followed by the farmers market next door.

We were greeted at the recycling plant with popcorn and Tootsie Rolls. Not only did they give us money, they gave us food. It doesn’t get much better.

I got a huge jar of honey at the farmers market which I’m pretty excititated about. I’m interested to see what the rest of the day brings…

DIY Skincare

I have long talked about skincare and the awful state of my skin on here. I never had any issues with my skin until I hit my 20′s. I’ve had some awful times over the past six years, but none of those times have lasted more than a few months…until recently.

About a year and a half ago, my skin went into another awful state, but it never got better. No matter what I did, my face exploded on a daily basis. I tried every face wash known to man (and spent a pretty penny doing so). I even went to the dermatologist who prescribed me antibiotics (which are awful for you and didn’t work anyway). My face just got worse, even to the point of me not wanting to leave the house.

Since the information and medications the doctor gave me wasn’t working, I decided to research this issue myself. I could write a novel on everything I found, but for the sake of this post I’ll make it simple: face wash was irritating my face an making it worse. What I was eating also had a lot to do with it. I researched different ingredients and how I could make my own beauty products and realized it was surprisingly easy.

This is my makeup remover/cleanser. It’s aloe vera water with a bit of olive oil (hence the separation). You shake it up, put in on a cotton pad and rub it all over your face. It gets off all of your makeup and clears out what’s in your pores.

After I use my oil cleanser, I use toner. This toner is half extra concentrated green tea, half aloe vera water and I put a good 10 to 15 drops of tea tree oil in there. This toner lives in the fridge to preserve it’s longevity. I wipe this all over my face to get out any last bits of crud in my pores and the tea tree oil helps to clear out any bacteria that may be hiding on my face.

After I use the toner, I moisturize. I can sometimes skip this step, but since it’s winter, I have to moisturize at night after I wash my face as well as the next morning when I wake up. For this, I’m currently using the Josie Maran Argan Oil. It’s very nice, but very expensive. There are other options out there. I’ve heard only good things about Egyptian Magic. And Badger has one that looks quite nice and only a fraction of the cost of the other products mentioned.

My skin is nowhere near perfect and I still get some breakouts (usually surrounding lady issues), but I can go out in public without foundation and not feel like Sloth from The Goonies. The conclusion I’ve come to is that my skin is incredibly sensitive and it had enough of me putting chemicals and preservatives on my face and in my body. I’m currently in the process of pinpointing the different foods that trigger a reaction on my face. Some of my favorite foods are creating such a reaction which is unfortunate. Sad face. But I really shouldn’t be eating them anyway. Sad sad face.

Oh by the way, this is really inexpensive. HAPPY FACE.

The power of customer service

The story is that I bought an exfoliator from Blue Mercury a little while ago and (shock horror) I had a reaction to it. The fact that I had a reaction to something is quite normal in my life so I didn’t really think anything of it. I was able to return it very easily and get my money back which was great and I forgot about it until today. I received a piece of handwritten mail (which never happens, I hardly knew how to react) and it is an apology from the representative from Blue Mercury. I absolutely could not believe it. I didn’t think customer service like that existed anymore. But it’s definitely something to think about.

I just made my first loaf of bread! It was so freaking easy and it tastes like magic! This will save me millions of dollars a year.

My computer died, I’m in the process of moving and I got my wisdom teeth out. And I’m lazy. But I am indeed alive. I’m hoping to be able to do some before and after shots of my new place once I move in and get everything settled.

At least Kiki figured out what a Macbook Air is used for.
